GANAKO LIBRARY- FIRST CSEB PROJECT STARTED

Mr. Satprem Maïni from the Auroville Earth Institute conducted this one-week training course beginning of Aug.
Satprem did also the concept plan for the Library which was approved by the director of the School and the Karatu District Council .
19 workers are presently producing the CSEB for the library under the supervision of a local Technician, trained by Satprem.
The local partners and authorities were very enthusiastic with the project and they are looking forward to the construction of the library as the first step of a technology transfer in earth architecture to Karatu.
Tentative schedule
5th August to 15th September 2009: production of CSEB at Karatu by the team trained by Satprem
15th August to 15th September 2009: studying and drafting at Auroville all the detail plans for the library
16th September to 15th October 2009: Curing of the blocks which were produced in August / September
16th October to 15th November 2009: ramming the stabilized rammed earth foundations and precasting the composite lintels under the supervision of Mr. Alberto Navarro.
16th November to 26th December 2009: Six weeks “On the job” training conducted by Satprem and Alberto for the construction of the superstructure of the library with all earthquake resistant features and the ferrocement roof with a HYPAR (hyperbolic paraboloid).
27th December 2009 to 15th January 2010: finishes of the library under the supervision of Mr. Alberto Navarro.
The construction of the library of Ganako School is the first step in the creation of the vocational training centre in earth construction as twelve people have been trained for block making.
